The question was brought up on Twitter recently whether or not the Academy can deal with sex, specifically gay or lesbian sex and whether or not it effects the film’s so-called Oscar potential. Oscar potential, by the way, is a phrase I’ve always defined as: whether the film is good or not. Nothing else should matter. By Oscar potential, people usually hedge their bets, as in, “It’s not an Oscar movie,” or “An animated film can’t win Best Picture,” etc. It’s not really about whether or not it CAN. It can. But will it, and what will be the reasons it will or it won’t.

Either way, someone proposed the idea that the lesbian scenes were too intense for the AMPAS and that it would somehow hurt Natalie Portman’s chances in the race. Although I will reserve judgment until I actually see the film, but it strikes me that sex doesn’t matter if the film is good enough. If the film is kind of lame but the sex scenes (gay or straight) are great, it’s probably not going to get very far in the race.

On the other hand, and I know it’s early in the morning, my best friend and I have long believed that their is an “anal sex rule.” But after I brought it up on Twitter it silenced the dialogue completely, so perhaps it’s better if I just keep it to myself.

So I pose the question to you. Does sex, when it is as intense as it reportedly is in Black Swan, make any difference at all in how the film is judged in terms of its so-called Oscar Potential?

[Sex and the City 2 Trailer - VIDEO]

Sex and the City 2 held its world premiere last night at none other than famous Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristen Davis were all in attendance, and, of course, we all decked out in stunning gowns.

With each frame of SATC2 dripping in designer duds, the pressure was on to pick a red-carpet-worthy gown. Parker wore neon yellow Valentino. “This movie took a long time to make,” she said. “I cared about being presentable to that degree. I never want to embarrass my children or my family. It’s always lovely to get to borrow a beautiful dress.” A L’Wren Scott-clad Eve said the pressure to look stunning was huge. “I didn’t sleep at all last night,” she said.

Though I don’t hate the dress, I feel that I have seen SJP looking better. The length is what I think I have issue with.

As for the other ladies? All looked lovely, though I have to say Catrall’s fireworks inspired ensemble was my least fav and Davis’ hair left something to be desired.

However, none held a candle to my man John Corbett who looked especially dazzling. Ooohh, how I missed Aidan!

The second trailer for Sex and the City 2 has cometh. This time we get more plot hints and see Aiden. Despite denying any involvement, John Corbett returns. The trailer suggests that “something happens” between Carrie and Aiden as she and the girls take a trip to Abu Dhabi sans husbands, children and work.

Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus and Liza Minelli also show up in this extended trailer for the film’s sequel.

*SPOILER ALERT* It has been whispered that John Corbett who played Carrie’s former fiancé will reprise his role as Aidan in ‘Sex and the City 2.’ He was spotted in Morocco while filming for the sequel took place and sent theories running. When asked about it, Parker gave a slightly cryptic response.

“I can’t not confirm or deny his involvement. It might have just been coincidental that he was traveling.”

It is appears that he WILL return to play Aiden. Furthermore, his role in the film will be BIG…. as in “indiscretion” and Mr. Big. Word is that this “indiscretion” leads to Mr.Big moving. Also debunked is the Carrie and Big loose tons of money and are forced to move in with Charlotte and Harry. That is just a rumor. They are financially affected, but not to that extreme.

Another spoiler states that much of the film takes place in the Middle East and the only hint given to the reality of that is that Samantha is the reason for that particular travel. If you are super interested…the reflection in Carrie’s sunglasses on the poster is supposed to be that of the deserts in the Middle East. Despite photos of Kim Catrall filming a scene while wearing a wedding dres…there is only one wedding in S&TC and that is between Stanford Blatch and Anthony Marentino. Also, Miranda does leave her beloved attorney position to open a restaurant with her husband, Steve.

Sarah Jessica Parker also cleared up any rumors of the return of her beloved assistant played by Jennifer Hudson.

“I can confirm that there is no Jennifer Hudson.”

Let’s just hope there is plenty of Smith in there somewhere.

What in glitter hell is this? It is supposed to be the official movie poster for ‘Sex and the City 2,’ but someone hit the Mariah Carey button on the photoshop for this. I know that movie makers think that the female population loves anything shiny, but this is bursting with the light of a thousand fairies. Did Adam Lambert and baby Jesus get together to create this?

I will be the first to admit an “I am a Samantha” t-shirt back when they were cool. What am I saying? They were never really “cool” but it was a fantastic way to announce my sluttery.

The second installment of the “Sex and the City” films has began shooting. This morning Sarah Jessica Parker was in her Christian Louboutin pumps while she filmed a few scenes for S&TC 2. Notice there is no ring on her left ring finger? Is this a sign that something, once again, disrupted her relationship with Big? Maybe she just forgot to wear her ring.

Several scenarios have been floating around regarding the plot’s central line. Mainly Carrie Bradshaw’s relationship with Big has been the ever changing rumor. So far John has been rumored to die, divorce and impregnate Carrie. I vote for all 3, but I fear riots in the streets of theaters so lets hope they can think of something better than those issues.
