Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have been quiet on their relationship status for several months. Tabloids, including People, have all ran with a story that their relationship was “officially finished.”

The Enquirer insisted that Paradis was jealous of Johnny’s “relationship” with ‘Dark Shadows’ co-star, Eva Green. Other rags pointed to the lack of red carpet appearances together. “Sources” for both media outlets insisted the situation was grim and described “how sad” the ordeal is.

Depp cleared up the rumors and insisted that he and Vanessa are still together and the rumors are “absolutely not true.”

“The rumors are not true. They are absolutely not true. No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can’t say enough about it not being over.”

National Enquirer recently ran with the story that Johnny’s new ‘Dark Shadows’ costar, Eva Green, is trying to pull an Angelina Jolie and man-snatch Depp.

“Vanessa is afraid that Johnny has fallen head over heels for Eva. Johnny has brushed off Vanessa’s fears, but it’s caused so much tension that rumors are flying they’re about to split up.”

Now, People has thrown a split story into the ring. The mag is typically a reliable source so raise an eyebrow in concern…

“Depp, 48, and Paradis, 39, who are parents to Lily-Rose, 12, and Jack, 9, have not appeared side-by-side on a red carpet for more than a year. Multiple sources tell People in this week’s cover story that the relationship is all but officially finished. In fact, some in their circle say the couple of nearly 14 years have already split. Says one insider: “It’s so sad.”

It appears this rumor could be more than just hearsay. Reps are currently silent on the issue, which is never a good sign.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star surfaced from the digs looking like he ate a couple bottles of rum and washed it down with some scotch. He still managed to scribble out a few autographs before some handler bro hugged him right to the ground. A looming pap repeatedly squealed, “YOU DROPPED JOHNNY! WHY!?” as Depp went right back to drunk autographing before being shoved into a getaway car.

In a classic case of ‘Omg, are you friggin’ kidding me??’, Johnny Depp has done what every celebrity does once or twice (or in Jessica Simpson’s case, a dozen times) in their career – Opened their mouth and said something completely and utterly ridiculous… Something crazy enough to make you stop and say ‘Wait, what?’ In his November Vanity Fair cover story, Depp has undoubtly raised the ire of feminists everywhere by comparing photo shoots to rape.

Per Vanity Fair:

“Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man. [I'll pose with fans], but whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb. It’s just so stupid.”

Well, if he means getting your soul torn out of your chest and wanting to sit in a corner and rock for years afterward then yeah, I guess it is kind of like being raped. Simmer down there Depp, let’s not go too far. Congratulations Depp – you just joined the ‘Kristen Stewart Foot-in-Mouth Club,’ which she founded last year after telling ELLE she couldn’t stand the paparazzi.

I do understand what he meant to say, and am not really offended by his use of the word in that context, but there are a lot of folks out there who are going to take it literally. If he had to do it again, we’re guessing Depp would choose his words more carefully. A strongly worded apology is probably being drafted by his people as we type.

“Disgusting as he usually was,” Hunter Thompson writes in this, his 1959 novel, “on rare occasions he showed flashes of a stagnant intelligence. But his brain was so rotted with drink and dissolute living that whenever he put it to work it behaved like an old engine that had gone haywire from being dipped in lard.” Surprise! Thompson isn’t writing about himself, but one of the other, older, aimlessly carousing newspapermen in Puerto Rico, a guy called Moberg whose chief achievement is the ability to find his car after a night’s drinking because it stinks so much. (I can smell it for blocks, he boasts.) The autobiographical hero, Paul Kemp, is 30, trapped in a dead-end job (Thompson wound up writing for a bowling magazine), and feeling as if his big-time writer dreams, soaked in Fitzgerald and Hemingway, are evaporating as rapidly as the rum in his fist.

In fact, Thompson was only 22 when he wrote The Rum Diary, but his fear of winding up like Moberg was well founded. What saved him was the fantastic conflagration of the 1960s, a fiery wind on which the reptilian wings of his prose style could catch and soar to the cackling heights of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Puerto Rico in 1959 doesn’t have bad craziness enough to offer Thompson–just a routine drunken-reporter stomping by local cops and a riot over Kemp’s friend’s temptress girlfriend, a scantily imagined Smith College alumna who likes to strip nude on beaches and in nightclubs to taunt men.

Thompson’s prose style only intermittently takes tentative flight–compare the stomping scenes in this book with his breakthrough, Hell’s Angels–but it’s interesting to see him so nakedly reveal his sensitive innards, before the celebrated clownish carapace grew in. It’s also interesting to see how he improved this full version of the novel from the more raw (and racist) excerpts found in the 1990 collection Songs of the Doomed.

Johnny Depp spoke with the magazine about his career trials and tribulations. One of them was meeting and costarring with Angelina Jolie for “The Tourist.” He admits he was nervous to meet her, but asserts that he was pleasantly surprised.

“You don’t know what she might be like—if she has any sense of humor at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humor.”

Depp didn’t stop there when it came to singing the praises of Angie. He compared her traits to that of one of the world’s beloved icons.

“I’ve had the honor and the pleasure and gift of having known Elizabeth Taylor for a number of years,” he says. “You know, you sit down with her, she slings hash, she sits there and cusses like a sailor, and she’s hilarious. Angie’s got the same kind of thing, you know, the same approach.”

I am guessing her confused her offer to dress up in a latex Miss Piggie outfit while he filled a bathtub full of Jello to wrestle in as ‘perverse humor.’ (Oh don’t pretend you don’t know what I am talking about. Everyone has had those offers where you giggle nervously and wave as you turn the corner and run like a mother of 8 after the last Tickle Me Whatever Toy on Black Friday.)

Aside from the rumors that Jolie was trying to seduce Depp on set, Johnny also mentions his portrayal of Jack Sparrow worried Disney big-wigs to the point they accused him of ruining the film.

“They couldn’t stand him. They just couldn’t stand him. I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, ‘He’s ruining the movie.’ Depp reveals to Smith, however, that he remained unfazed by the studio’s hysteria. “Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?… And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite… ‘But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?’ Which really made her nervous.”

Whatever Disney. I am pretty sure Jack the Ambiguously Gay Lush Sparrow has nothing on the slew of Disney starlets visiting rehab like it’s Costco.
