Country music sweetheart Taylor Swift was the absentee belle of the ball at the 2009 American Music Awards. Swift won five of the six awards for which she was nominated and was not even there to accept the awards in person.
Taylor Swift, 19, won Artist of the Year, beating out Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and Eminem!
The young singer-songwriter also took home the awards for Pop/Rock Female Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Country Female Artist and Best Country Album.
Taylor accepted two of her awards via satellite from London, where she was rehearsing for a show on Monday, and thanked her fans. “I will never be able to say how much I love you,” Taylor said.
