There were some great performances and some surprise appearances at the 2008 CMAs in Nashville last night. It was definitely a night to remember for Country music lovers and their stars.
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood didn’t just host show, both of the singers performed and won awards of their own. Paisley took home two awards, including male vocalist and music video of the year for “Waitin’ on a Woman.”
Underwood, who had six wardrobe changes during the telecast, was named female vocalist of the year for the third year in a row. Accepting the award after belting out, “Just a Dream,” the former American Idol champ, 25, joked, “Mama, it’s real hard to sing when you’re in the second row crying.” Kid Rock performed in a Titan’s jersey alongside his special guest guitarist, Lil Wayne, who sported the undefeated team’s colors as well.
Lady Antebellum walked away with the artist of the year trophy presented by Taylor Swift, who won the award in 2007. “Last year it was the highlight of my senior year when Carrie Underwood presented me with the Horizon Award,” she said.
Kenny Chesney took home the prestigious entertainer of the year award for the third year in a row, fourth time overall. Legendary George Strait became the artist with the most CMA Awards in history, 22 to be exact, and took home single of the year and album of the year.
